Have you ever walked through a season so painful, it left you breathless?
Maybe you’ve stood at the edge of a broken marriage, buried a loved one, or felt the sting of betrayal, loneliness, or shame.
I have too.
My story isn’t tied up in a pretty bow. I’ve walked through some of life’s darkest valleys.
- I’ve walked in on my husband with another woman.
- I’ve endured the heartbreak of divorce.
- I’ve buried my 36-year-old daughter.
- I’ve laid on an operating table for open heart surgery.
- I’ve felt the sting of estrangement from adult children.
- I’ve watched a husband die.
- I’ve seen my 25-year-old son lose his leg.
Each time, life came crashing down—sudden, violent, and suffocating. One moment I was standing strong. The next, I was buried beneath the rubble, gasping for air, wondering if I’d ever see light again.
But God never intended for us to live in the ruins.
The Bible promises that God gives beauty for ashes (Isaiah 61:3). Not just comfort—but transformation.
Just like in Acts 2, when the wind of the Holy Spirit swept through the upper room, He wants to breathe over your ashes—the remains of what the enemy tried to destroy—and bring beauty in their place.
I didn’t always see it in the moment.
But when I look back now, I see His fingerprints everywhere. And I know—He was working, even in the ashes.
Why I Wrote Discovering Beauty from Ashes
When I first set out to write this study, I planned another structured, theology-rich Bible course—like the 36 others I’ve created over the years.
But something shifted. This time, God stirred my heart in a different direction—not to teach only, but to testify.
Writing this book helped me walk through some of my own lingering shame. It became healing.
As I opened my story, God opened my heart—and I saw how vulnerability doesn’t weaken the message... it deepens it.
