I use junk journal techniques for Bible study so I call them Treasure Journals. I am always looking for the next layout idea. My eyes are always scanning.
- A pocket here.
- A fold there.
- A clever way to hold a verse or a thought.
- a new one page wonder
I can’t help it. I’ve always been a layout watcher. When I see a journal page, my mind immediately asks, How was that made? and How could I adapt that for Scripture?
So I'm posing some layout ideas here. My Bible journal classes include a layout for every lesson.

I Assumed I Wasn’t the Only One
Over the years, I’ve learned something simple: What I’m struggling to figure out, someone else usually is too. Many of you have told me:
-
“I love journaling, but I don’t know where to start.”
-
“I need ideas before I can create.”
-
“Once I see a layout, everything clicks.”
That told me this wasn’t just my habit. It was a shared need.

Why Layout Ideas Matter
A layout is like a map. You can wander without one—but a map gives you confidence to begin.
Layouts:
-
Remove the fear of the blank page
-
Spark creativity instead of limiting it
-
Free your heart to focus on God’s Word, not construction decisions
When the structure is settled, the soul can speak.

Why I Made These Samples in Shades of Beige
I chose gray on purpose. No color pressure. No “mine doesn’t look like yours” comparison.
Just clear shapes and clean ideas. These samples are meant to be:
-
Guides, not rules
-
Inspiration, not instruction
-
Starting points, not finished pages
Think of them like a sewing pattern. The fabric you choose makes it your own.
Use Them Your Way
You might:
-
Recreate them exactly once, just to learn
-
Mix parts from different layouts
-
Use them as mental blueprints, not printables
There is no right way—only your way.

My Hope for You
My hope is simple. That these layouts:
-
Help you begin instead of hesitate
-
Give you confidence to try
-
Clear the clutter so you can listen for God’s voice
Journaling isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence.
And sometimes, all we need is a gentle starting place.

January Bible Era Class
This January, we begin a beautiful journey through the Bible in one year—one era at a time. We’ll start at the very beginning with the Creation Era, using thoughtfully designed Treasure Journals to anchor God’s Word in both heart and hands.
Below is a small peek into the Creation Era Kit, coming soon. It’s the first step in a yearlong walk through Scripture—layer by layer, truth by truth. Learn more here.
